Product teams typically use NEXT in combination with a suite of other tools to manage their day-to-day work. They use NEXT for discovery, Slack for communication, Productboard for prioritizing ideas and Linear as a backlog management tool. Ensuring these tools integrate smoothly is crucial for an optimal experience.

This article delves into the specifics of our Linear integration, which is a popular tool for product management.

Why Integrate with Linear?

Our NEXT x Linear integration facilitates the direct transfer of highlights, chats, and clusters into your backlog, allowing for the effortless transformation of insights into backlog items. Creating a ticket in Linear (like a User Story or Bug) from NEXT automatically links to the supporting evidence (recordings and highlights), enabling your team to trace Linear items back to their origins.

Example Use Cases

  • Sharing Chat Responses: Use NEXT's AI to generate bug reports, tickets, user stories, epics, etc., from discovery highlights and share them directly into Linear.

  • Sharing Highlights: For manual ticket writing in Linear, sharing highlights directly ensures the evidence remains connected, enriching the Linear ticket with a link to the video clip for easy reference.

  • Sharing Clusters: Share significant items (draft user stories, epics) along with their supporting evidence to Linear with a single click, streamlining the process of enriching your backlog.

How to set up the Linear x NEXT integration

Linear connects with NEXT on a teamspace-level, and not to your personal NEXT account. Follow these steps to set up a connection:

  1. Log in to NEXT

  2. Open the teamspace with which you want to connect Linear

  3. Click on the options button [...] next to your teamspace name (top menu)

  4. Click "Sharing" from the dropdown

  5. In the dialog that appears, choose Linear from the dropdown in the left upper corner

  6. Give the integration a name (e.g. Linear Inbox)

  7. Enter the workspace URL to your Linear workspace

  8. Click Save

You're now ready to share to Linear! Navigate to an item you wish to share (e.g. highlight, chat or cluster), click the Share button and pick Linear from the dropdown with share option.
