Guide to Using NEXT AI's Chat
NEXT AI's chat feature is a powerful tool for harnessing insights from your data. Whether you’re starting a chat from scratch or using existing recordings and highlights, this guide will help you make the most of the chat functionalities.
1. Start the Chat from the Chat Page
Use a Prompt Template
Locate Prompt Templates: On the “Ask AI” chat page, you will find various pre-defined prompt templates designed for common use cases.
Select and Use a Template
Click a template that fits your need
It will automatically start a chat with a pre-filled prompt
Ask follow-up questions to refine the AI’s answers
Start Typing on Your Own
Navigate to the Ask AI page
At the bottom of the chat page, you’ll find a text input area
Enter your prompt directly into this area and hit enter to start the chat
Search and Filter Highlights Before Typing
The chat runs on your highlights. As the amount of data you added to NEXT expands, the AI needs to filter relevant highlights for its answers. To help the AI, you can perform a filter and search before starting to type in the chat.
Open the Ask AI page
At the top, enter your search term in natural language (or tags, timeframes, etc)
Click on the chat area at the bottom of the page
Enter your prompt and hit “Enter”
The chat will now run on preselected highlights
ℹ️ Searching and filtering highlights before starting the chat lets you improve the quality of chat responses significantly. A great use case would be to enter a search term like “Insights related to topic XYZ”, to let the AI preselect highlights specific to that topic.
2. Start the Chat from specific Recordings
Go to the “Library” and open the “Recordings” page
Select one or multiple recordings that you want the AI to run on
Click “Ask AI” in the dialog that pops up at the bottom of the page
The Ask AI chat page opens
Enter your prompt at the bottom and hit “Enter”
The chat will run only on the highlights from the selected recordings
ℹ️ Preselecting one or more recordings for the AI to work on is great for use cases that require a limited dataset (e.g. only interviews from last week).
3. Start the Chat from One or Multiple Highlights
Go to the “Library” and open the “Highlights” page
Select one or multiple highlights that you want the AI to run on
Click “Ask AI” in the dialog that pops up at the bottom of the page
The Ask AI chat page opens
Enter your prompt at the bottom and hit “Enter”
The chat will run only on the highlights you’ve selected
ℹ️ Running the AI on specific highlights can increase the response quality significantly. It also works great for more niche use cases, such as letting the AI write bug reports, user stories, or summaries from specific topics.
Tips for Effective Chat Sessions
Be Specific: The more specific your query or command, the more targeted and useful the AI’s response will be.
Explore Different Angles: Don’t hesitate to ask follow-up questions or explore different aspects of your data.
Add context: Applying filters can greatly enhance the relevance of the AI's responses, especially when dealing with large volumes of data.

Sharing Chats with your teammates
By default, AI chats are only visible to the user who created them. To share an AI chat with all teammates, follow these steps:
Open the chat that you want to share
Click the [Invite team] button in the right hand column
To see all shared chats, click on on the "Teams" toggle in the left hand column.
