Sanitize Records

Use record sanitization when you need to remove personal audio or video data from multiple records without deleting the transcript itself.

This is useful when your team needs to reduce access to raw media while keeping the written conversation available for review, analysis, and follow-up work in NEXT.

In UX research and other customer-feedback workflows, audio and video records often contain personal data. That makes privacy-sensitive handling important, especially when teams are working with interviews, support calls, or other direct customer conversations.

These records can fall under privacy requirements such as GDPR, where organizations need to protect personal data carefully and reduce unnecessary exposure. Sanitization gives teams a practical way to remove the media portion of records while preserving the transcript for continued analysis in NEXT.

Before You Start

  • Make sure the records you want to sanitize are already available in the Records library.

Steps

  1. In Records Library, select the records you want to sanitize.
  2. In the selection panel, click Sanitize.
  3. In the confirmation dialog, click Sanitize now. Sanitization starts immediately.

When Should I Use Record Sanitization?

  • When you need to remove media files but still want to keep the transcript.
  • When you are handling records that contain personal or sensitive information.
  • When you need a bulk action instead of sanitizing records one by one.

Tips

  • Review the selected records before confirming, because sanitization is intended for privacy-sensitive cleanup.
  • Use bulk sanitization when you need to remove media from several records at once.
  • Keep transcripts tagged and organized before sanitizing if your team still needs to work from the text later.

Example

This example selects two records from the library and sanitizes them from the bulk action panel.

FAQ

Q: Does sanitizing a record delete the transcript?

No. Sanitizing removes the media content while keeping the transcript available.

Q: Can I sanitize more than one record at a time?

Yes. Select multiple records first, then use the bulk Sanitize action.
