Edit Recording Transcript
Use transcript editing when you need to clean up speaker assignments or fix transcript text in a recording.
This is useful when the transcript is mostly correct but still needs small manual corrections before your team reviews, tags, or shares the recording. Text-only recordings can also contain regular Markdown content without speaker sections.
Transcript editing in NEXT supports speaker reassignment and Markdown text editing. Speaker sections keep their timestamps, so you can still jump from the transcript to the matching point in the recording.
Before You Start
- Open the recording you want to update.
Steps
Task #1: Change the Speaker
- Click the speaker name above the transcript section you want to update.
- Choose the correct speaker from the list.
Task #2: Edit Transcript Text
- Open the transcript options menu and click Edit.
- Update the transcript text.
- Click Done to leave edit mode.
When Should I Use Transcript Editing?
- When the wrong speaker was assigned to part of the conversation.
- When the transcript contains typos, misheard text, or extra filler text you want to remove.
- When a text-only recording needs Markdown formatting.
Tips
- Reassign speakers first if the section belongs to the wrong person, then make text corrections.
- Use retranscription instead of manual edits when the transcript is broadly wrong because of language or speaker-detection issues.
- Use copy and paste to combine adjacent speaker sections when they belong together.
Example
Use transcript editing to correct misheard text or clean up speaker assignments before working with highlights.
FAQ
Q: Do I need edit mode to change a speaker?
No. You can reassign a speaker directly from the speaker name in the transcript.
Q: Can I split speaker sections?
Not yet. For now, use copy and paste to combine or reshape transcript text.
Q: When should I retranscribe instead of editing manually?
Retranscribe when the transcript has larger problems, such as the wrong language or poor speaker separation throughout the recording.
