Edit Recording Transcript

Use transcript editing when you need to clean up speaker assignments or fix transcription mistakes in a recording.

This is useful when the transcript is mostly correct but still needs small manual corrections before your team reviews, tags, or shares the recording.

Transcript editing in NEXT supports three main tasks: reassigning a speaker to a section, splitting or merging speaker sections, and correcting individual words.

Before You Start

  • Open the recording you want to update.

Steps

Task #1: Change the Speaker

  1. Click the speaker name above the transcript section you want to update.
  2. Choose the correct speaker from the list.

Task #2: Correct or Delete a Word

  1. Open the transcript options menu and click Edit.
  2. Click the word you want to update.
  3. In the popover, edit the word and click Correct, or click Delete word to remove it.
  4. Click Done to leave edit mode.

Task #3: Split Speaker Section

  1. Open the transcript options menu and click Edit.
  2. Click the first word where the new speaker section should begin.
  3. In the popover, click Split speaker.
  4. Click Done to leave edit mode.

Task #4: Merge Speaker Sections

  1. Open the transcript options menu and click Edit.
  2. Find two adjacent speaker sections that belong to the same speaker.
  3. Click Merge next to the speaker section.
  4. Click Done to leave edit mode.

When Should I Use Transcript Editing?

  • When the wrong speaker was assigned to part of the conversation.
  • When one speaker section should actually be split into two sections.
  • When the transcript contains a typo, misheard word, or extra filler word you want to remove.

Tips

  • Reassign speakers first if the section belongs to the wrong person, then make word-level corrections.
  • Use retranscription instead of manual edits when the transcript is broadly wrong because of language or speaker-detection issues.
  • Merge only adjacent speaker sections that belong to the same speaker.

Example

Use transcript editing to correct a misheard word, split a speaker section, or clean up speaker assignments before working with highlights.

FAQ

Q: Do I need edit mode to change a speaker?

No. You can reassign a speaker directly from the speaker name in the transcript.

Q: What actions are available when I click a word in edit mode?

You can correct the word, delete it, or split the speaker section at that word.

Q: When should I retranscribe instead of editing manually?

Retranscribe when the transcript has larger problems, such as the wrong language or poor speaker separation throughout the recording.
