Retranscribe Recording

Use retranscription when you need to rerun a recording transcript with different language or speaker settings.

This is helpful when the original transcript used the wrong language, when speaker separation needs to be more explicit, or when you want to improve the transcript for later review.

When a file is first uploaded, NEXT analyzes it and automatically detects the language for transcription. Depending on the accent, file length, and language, that detection can occasionally be wrong, which is one of the main reasons to retranscribe a recording with updated settings.

Before You Start

  • Open the recording you want to update.

Steps

  1. Open the transcript options menu on the recording detail page.
  2. Click Retranscribe.
  3. Choose the language you want to use.
  4. Choose the number of speakers.
  5. Click Transcribe.

When Should I Use Retranscription?

  • When the recording was transcribed in the wrong language.
  • When you want to set a fixed speaker count instead of relying on automatic detection.
  • When the transcript needs a cleaner starting point before further review or editing.

Tips

  • Choose the correct language before retranscribing so the new transcript starts from the right settings.
  • Set the speaker count when you already know how many people are in the conversation.
  • Retranscribe before making detailed transcript edits if the current transcript is fundamentally off.

Example

This example opens the transcript options, chooses French and 2 speakers, and starts retranscription.

FAQ

Q: When should I change the language before retranscribing?

Change the language when the current transcript does not match the spoken language in the recording.

Q: Why would I set a speaker count manually?

Manual speaker count is useful when you know how many speakers are in the recording and want more controlled speaker separation.
